Organiser, tray and display products work when recesses, access and orientation are built around real objects rather than guessed nominal sizes. This is an idea family for prototyping, not a current product claim.

Design around access, not only containment

An object can fit inside a pocket and still be frustrating to use. Check how a hand approaches it, whether a cable can bend naturally, whether keys scratch another item and whether the tray stays stable while something is removed. Deep pockets may conceal objects; shallow pockets may provide too little location. Rounded transitions can improve handling but change available branding area.

For a compatibility range, publish a measured envelope rather than an unbounded product list. Test cases, straps, connectors and camera projections that buyers commonly leave attached. If several devices require different geometry, decide whether to make controlled sizes or one deliberately generous pocket; a supposedly universal close fit is difficult to substantiate.

Finish and lining create their own workflow. The seller needs a repeatable way to cut and place felt, remove adhesive contamination, inspect corners and photograph the completed tray. Include that labour and scrap in the landed-cost worksheet before setting the first batch.

Think about cleaning and day-to-day wear without making unsupported durability claims. Narrow pockets may collect debris or resist a cloth; sharp internal transitions can be difficult to finish consistently. If the listing recommends a care method, check it against the actual coating, lining and adhesive. The seller’s instructions should identify realistic limits rather than calling the product maintenance-free.

Photograph compatibility honestly

Show the actual objects used during the fit test and state their relevant dimensions or model context where rights permit. Do not position an object loosely beside the tray and imply a tested pocket fit. If accessories are not included, make that visible in both imagery and listing copy. A top view communicates layout, while an angled close-up can show finger access and pocket depth; together they reduce customer assumptions that one attractive photograph cannot resolve.

Design pockets around real objects

For a valet tray intended to hold a phone, keys and watch, drawing pockets from product names is not enough. Measure representative objects, include common cases and protrusions, and use a physical fit test before fixing the pocket geometry.

Can I advertise a universal phone tray?

Not from one prototype. Define a tested size range and explain exclusions accurately.

Does lining make the CNC pocket larger or smaller?

It reduces usable space and can alter corner behaviour; include its real thickness in the prototype.

Should pockets be as tight as possible?

No. Usability, tolerances, finish and object variation normally require deliberate clearance rather than visual tightness.

Check the objects, finish and physical sample

Check the organiser with measured representative objects, the actual material and finish, and a physical sample. Brand compatibility and sales claims require separate evidence.
